That is the Toyota TRD PRO Desert Air Intake.
The idea is to get cooler, cleaner air into the engine when you're off-roading.
I watched a video with the intention of learning enough to being able to write intelligently about it. But it's a good video that will tell you everything you need to know about the Desert Air Intake in a little over three minutes, so let's watch together:
It's very cool stuff, isn't it? And it's a $725 option on the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro 4X4 Double Cab that we had for a week recently.
The Tacoma, in any form, is as good as midsize trucks get---strong, solid and virtually troubleproof. The TRD PRO model is meant for serious off-roading. And painted in Army Green (that's the actual name) like our tester, it looks like it could invade the country of your choice.
The base price of $46,665 brings the following as standard equipment:

- TRD-tuned FOX 2.5 internal bypass shocks with rear remote reservoirs

Under the hood, it's the same 278-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 that's optional on other Tacomas, with a six-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy estimate 18 city/22 highway.
