2020 Hyundai Ioniq HEV Limited. |
Nearly three years ago, when we last drove and reviewed the Ioniq HEV, we had a bit of a discrepancy. Despite that EPA fuel-economy estimate, the best we were able to manage was 45.7 miles per gallon.
Must have been something peculiar with that particular tester, because in the newly-refreshed 2020 Ioniq, the number was much, much closer:
\
The powerplant is the same as before---a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and a 32kw electric motor, combined making 139 horsepower, mated to a six-speed, dual clutch automatic transmission.
Our tester was the top-of-the-line Limited model. Base price, $31,200, with a thorough list of standard equipment, including a Harman Kardon® premium audio system, 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation, leather seating surfaces and Highway Driving Assist (HDA). There's also 17-inch alloy wheels, a power tilt-and-slide sunroof, LED headlights and taillights, smart cruise control with stop & go, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless charging.
And when I say thorough list of standard equipment, I mean thorough. As in no options. It's one spec, one price.
So, with $975 in freight, the 2020 Hyundai Ioniq HEV Limited's window sticker reads $32,175.
That's a bargain price in its own right, and it's also almost $2,500 less than the 2020 Toyota Prius we reviewed in February, which is nowhere near as satisfying or attractive a car. Now that we know the numbers from the EPA are something the Ioniq can live up to, it has our wholehearted recommendation if you're looking for a hybrid.
